Susan Swaney

Susan Swaney, the current Artistic Director of Voces Novae, has been its Music Director since 1999. She brings a wealth of varied experience as a conductor and performer.
Ms. Swaney is also Music Director of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington, where she has built a fine 45-voice choir and made music part of an active social justice outreach program. She is the former director of the Indiana University Children’s Choir program, where she oversaw five choirs and conducted the Chamber Choir which was featured on Paul Hillier’s Harmonia Mundi CD release, Carols of the Old and New Worlds.
Ms. Swaney is completing a doctorate in Choral Conducting at Indiana University. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music History and Violin from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Indiana University. She sang lead soprano roles in Nixon in China, Ghosts of Versailles, Candide, and Les Noces. She continues to perform as a soprano soloist with Aguava New Music Studio, appearing at the Tempus Fugit Festival in Tel Aviv, Israel, the Microtonal Festival in New York City and Festival Cervantino in Mexico. She also performs jazz and dance music with Craig Brenner and the Crawdads.
